Computational Intelligence

Our group has been created in 2004 and consists currently of 2 regular TUC professors: Prof. Jürgen Dix (full professor for "Theory and Computational Intelligence"), Prof. Barbara Hammer (associate professor for "Theoretical Foundations of computer science"), apl. Prof. Matthias Reuter (extraordinary professor at TUC for "applied Computer Science" and Head of "Modelling and Simulation" at CUTEC) and 8 additional members of staff. Our research and teaching activities center around
  • computational logic (deductive databases, answer set programming, nonmonotonic reasoning),
  • multi-agent systems (logics in agency, rational agents, programming agents),
  • artificial intelligence (automated theory proving, verification, data mining, planning),
  • softcomputing (neural networks, ant algorithms, evolutionary algorithms)
  • machine learning and pattern recognition (neural networks, hybrid systems for structured data, industrial applications)
  • datamining (self organizing maps, clustering, unsupervised and semi-supervised data processing)
  • integration of statistical and relational learning (neuro-symbolic integration, hybrid systems)
More details on our research projects and interests, can be found in the research section.

We are members of several networks of excellence and are actively collaborating with groups with similar interests worldwide.

Members of our group actively participate in organizing conferences worldwide either as program comittee members, or as main organizers.

For the convenience of the research community, we are running Event@CIG, a mailing list for distributing calls for papers and relevant announcements.

We also extensively participate in teaching and other educational activities of Department of Informatics by lecturing, seminar leading and integrating students into our project groups.
