Study Programmes

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

From the beginning of the winter semester 2006/07 our new Bachelor Programme B.Sc. Computer Science/Business Information Systems replaces the existing Diploma Programmes. After a standard period of six semesters of study, this programme leads the Bachelor of Science vocational qualification. Upon completion, this programme can be followed on by one of our two Master Programmes, which require a further four semesters of study.

During the Bachelor Programme the students are familiarized with the fundamentals of Computer Science, Mathematics, and one chosen subject of application or main focus. The Computer Science syllabus consists of courses in Programming Languages and Programming Paradigms, Computer Architecture, Database Systems, and Software Engineering. There are three options for the subject of application or main focus: Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or Computer Engineering.

This Programme can be started in either the winter or the summer semester.

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

From the beginning of the winter semester 2007/08 two Master Programmes in Computer Science and Business Information Systems will be offered by the Department of Informatics.

The Master Programmes require 4 semesters of study and build on the Bachelor Programmes in Computer Science/Business Information Systems. The Master Programmes enable our students to choose a main focus that will communicate an advanced and specialised knowledge in one of the following fields:

  • Human-Centred Computing
  • Parallel, Sistributed, and Networked Computation
  • Computer Engineering

IIn the M.Sc. Business Information Systems there is the opportunity to choose Energy Management as an application focus.

As well as partaking in lectures the students will be guided towards producing scientific work within seminars and lab sessions. In the final stage of the programme the students are required to write a research oriented Master's Thesis.

Apart from these Master Programmes, students who have previously studied the Bachelor Programme Computer Science/Business Information Systems are able to partake in Master Programmes in Operations Research or Computational Science and Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology.

Diploma Programmes (Dipl.-Inf./Dipl.-Wirt.-Inf.)

At present the Department offers two Diploma Programmes:

Both programmes can only be taken by students in the 6th semester or higher and not be started from scratch as they expire in accordance with the Bologna process that establishes the Bachelor/Master-system.

The Diploma Programme in Computer Science consists of courses in Practical, Applied and Theoretical Computer Science and a wide education in relevant areas of Mathematics. Depending on the chosen field of application, this fundamental knowledge is extended during the main study period. The Diploma Programme in Business Information Systems communicates fundamental knowledge in Business Studies and provides close reference to Industrial Engineering.

Our courses are also an essential part of the following Diploma Programmes:
